The primary task of the NCPE is to monitor the implementation of:
- Cap 456 – Equality for Men and Women Act
- S.L. 460.15 – Equal Treatment of Persons Order
- S.L. 456.01 – Access to Goods and Services and their Supply (Equal Treatment) Regulations
- S.L. 456.02 – Procedure for Investigations Regulations
- S.L. 456.03 – Exercise of Rights Conferred on Workers (Freedom of Movement) Regulations
- S.L. 456.04 – Promotion of Gender Balance among Directors of Listed Companies Regulations
The Commission works to ensure that Maltese society is a society free from any form of discrimination based on:
(i) sex/gender and family responsibilities, sexual orientation, age, religion or belief, racial or ethnic origin, and gender identity, gender expression or sex characteristics in employment; banks and financial institutions, as well as education;
(ii) racial / ethnic origin and gender in the provision of goods and services and their supply; and
(iii) freedom of movement for workers in the EU.
The NCPE is also empowered to promote, analyse, monitor and support gender balance on boards of listed companies. Please refer to the Women on Boards Directive Factsheet here.
